Cachaca beat all the records for exports

The sector's exports reached more than US$ 20 million in 2022, a growth of 52.38% compared to 2021. Entities work together in the Sectorial Project for the Promotion of Exports and the Export Qualification Program that contribute to boosting the distillate in international trade.

Cachaça, the second most loved alcoholic beverage by Brazilians, after beer, has also been conquering more and more consumers all over the world. Last year, sector exports took a leap and broke the record of the last twelve years. The value exported in 2022 was US$ 20.08 million, according to data from ComexStat (Ministry of Economy), compiled by the Brazilian Institute of Cachaça (IBRAC), which represents an increase of 52.8% compared to 2021. volume, the increase was 29.03%, totaling more than 9.3 million liters.

In 2022, the drink was exported to more than 75 countries, with the main destination countries (in value) being: United States, Germany, Portugal, France and Italy.

“In 2021, we were already moving towards a recovery, overcoming part of the damage caused by the closure of bars and restaurants around the world and the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages due to COVID-19. In 2022 we surpassed the balance of 2019 and the last twelve years. When we look at other distillates, we still have a long way to go, but this growth demonstrates that we are on the right track and, in addition, the potential that Cachaça has in the international market. A drink that presents itself as a new consumption option, one of the most versatile, used not only as a base for cocktails, but with different ways of being appreciated, full of history and which, in the case of aged drinks, carries the richness and characteristics of Brazilian woods”, explains the Executive Director of IBRAC, Carlos Lima.

This success is the result of the efforts of companies that over the years have been investing in the international market, in addition to strategic actions, such as the Sectorial Project “Cachaça: Taste the New, Taste Brasil”, carried out by the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments ( ApexBrasil) in partnership with IBRAC. The companies supported by the project were responsible for at least 65.4% of this record export value. The Qualification Program for Cachaça Exports in the agribusiness version (PEIEX Agro Cachaça), another initiative developed in partnership with IBRAC, has also supported the sector, preparing and qualifying micro, small and medium-sized companies to sell abroad.
